Community Quilt "Nature's Whispers"

Join us for the gentle crafting sessions in the Garden of Earthly Delights. Together, we will explore textile, patterns, hand sewing, natural dyes, and more. These are no-lead craft sessions taking place in a safe green space where participants are invited to direct their attention inwards and listen to the whispers of nature passing to and through us.
All are welcome! No previous experience needed.
Spring dates: Sundays 2-4pm April 21st | May 5th | May 19th

Are you a local community group, individual, parent in need of a space to host an event? Feel free to get in touch, we aim to help. The garden provides an excellent space for group occasions, events, and can accommodate children’s birthday parties.

A few basic rules:

  • No private use on weekends
  • Please clean up after your event, taking with you any recycling or rubbish
  • We encourage the use of environmentally friendly plates and cups. Please minimise use of any disposables including event supplies, decorations, party favours, utensils etc.
  • Small donation appreciated

SEED SWAP

This Saturday from 2pm onwards, we're welcoming Spring with a lil seed swap at the garden. Please bring surplus seeds to share, or simply come along to collect a few packets to get you going (with gratitude to all the plant companions & seed savers for their work). It's a lovely chance to start scheming & dreaming the growing season ahead.
Both collected & store-bought seeds are welcome! The London Freedom Swedbank will be bringing a selection of delicious, London-grown seed varieties to share. Come along!

The Woodshop of Recycled Delights - Wood Recycling & Carpentry Sessions

Working with reclaimed timber not only reduces waste, but also creates great opportunities for artistic creation in garden and furniture design. You will be amazed at what’s possible - seating and social spaces, water-efficient planters, pergolas, and limitless other options! Suitable for all experience levels, ages 16+. Safety equipment will be provided but sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothing advised. All tools provided, you just need to turn up!

GED OPEN DAY

Our next GED open day is coming up!
Please gather for an end of season joy fest on Sunday, October 8th from 1-5pm.
We’ll open with a communal lunch at 1pm, so you better be on time!
Followed by a programme of joyous activities & pleasures: block printing, woodworking, nature themed crafts for kids, apple cider making and music around the fire. Bring clothes for the block printing - AND - your surplus apples & pears as well as bottles since we are making juice friends!

Herbal Monday - Monthly Herb Care at GED

Come and spend a little time getting to know and taking care of the herbs growing at GED. Learn about their medicinal and culinary properties through the seasons. Share knowledge, stories, personal recollections, folklore and family traditions as we plant, propagate, harvest and process the herbs together.
Every 2nd Monday of the month, 5.30-7.30pm

Family Drop-Ins

Families are welcome to drop in to the garden on Monday 21 and Friday 25 August between 1 pm and 4 pm to say hello, meet others and join in with some simple, nature-themed activities.
The activities are designed with younger children in mind but everyone is welcome. There are shady spots to park buggies, and soft drinks will be available. Feel free to bring a picnic or something to share.
Please note, if the forecast is rainy, the event will not go ahead.

If you are able to, please bring / donate the following:
- Tetra packs (oat milk ideal)
- Plastic bottles - Scrap plain paper (printed on one side is fine) - Marker pens (sharpies ideal)
- Felt tip pens
- Newspapers
- Seeds (that are good to sow in august. Herbs especially good)
- Peat free compost (any ends of bags welcome)

A GARDENED MIND - Garden Therapy & Nature Connection

Free weekly empowering garden sessions for local Hackney residents of different ages and mixed backgrounds, who experience ill health and have restricted access to safeguarded green spaces.

We want to develop this community of re-users, rebuilders, and remakers. This Build Jam Session is a chance to come together, practice skills, share ideas, meet others who are doing similar things, and to build whatever we might want to! At this session our experienced wood - recyclers will be on hand to help you to work on whatever you 'd like to produce! We will also be working on fixing and upgrading some of the existing garden furniture.

Winter Solstice Celebration

Join us for a cosy celebration of the beginnings of Winter on the shortest day of the year. Let's wrap up warm, enjoy a hot drink around the fire and celebrate our community! Bring something that gives light (a candle in a jar, torch or oil lamp) and a nature object to share. As is our annual tradition, we will be planting autumn bulbs. You can take yours home in a pot.

Organic Bulb Planting, Chai Sipping & Garden Filming

Come & join us in planting tall allium, tulips and crocus to brighten up our garden & hearts and to secure some nourishing food for our bees right in the beginning of the season. We'll provide organic bulbs and a warming spicy chai tea over the fire. Please bring spare organic bulbs if you have and why not some cake to share!:)
Also on the day we will be joined by Dieter who will be filming the garden in action for the NHS Neighbourhoods Programme showcasing health and well-being opportunities for local residents
Planting bulbs is a fun activity particularly for kids, so bring them on!

Why organic bulbs? Did you know that all the commercial available bulbs are treated with neonicotinoids to keep aphids and other sap-sucking insects off plants? These chemicals have been found to adversely affect the health of our precious pollinators. When buying bulbs we therefore encourage you to check if the bulbs are really bee friendly containing no nastiness.
